BJP claims DMK suppresses protests in Tamil Nadu

A leader from the BJP in Tamil Nadu accused the ruling DMK government of blocking protests and detaining opposition leaders. This comes as the BJP planned a demonstration at the TASMAC headquarters to express concerns about liquor policy and law enforcement. Vanathi Srinivasan, the BJP Mahila Morcha National President, claimed the DMK government is limiting political protests. She stated the government has been denying permission for demonstrations, even in areas designated for protests. Srinivasan mentioned that several BJP leaders were arrested or detained at home right before the planned demonstration. BJP Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai also criticized the state government. He accused some police officials of acting in favor of the DMK instead of serving the public. Annamalai described their actions as “shameful,” stating they arrested many people and kept them in detention longer than allowed. The protest aimed to highlight issues that have persisted since the DMK took power. Authorities had already detained some leaders before the event, causing further tensions. The BJP is determined to voice its objections against the DMK in spite of these challenges.
