BJP demands CBI inquiry into HPPCL GM's death
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh is calling for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the mysterious death of Vimal Negi, the chief engineer and general manager of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). A delegation, led by state BJP president Dr. Rajeev Bindal and opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur, presented their demand to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. The BJP also asked for an investigation into HPPCL’s operations over the past two years. This comes after the state government assigned additional chief secretary Onkar Chand Sharma to investigate Negi's death. However, the BJP questioned how one IAS officer can effectively investigate another, especially since the case involves the managing director of the department. Vimal Negi had been missing since March 10. His family reported his absence, but an FIR was not filed until his body was found in Govind Sagar Lake on March 18. Following this, HPPCL officials and Negi's family accused managing director Harikesh Meena and director (electrical) Desh Raj of pressuring Negi, causing him significant distress. The BJP believes a CBI investigation is necessary to ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry into these claims and the circumstances surrounding Negi's death.
