BJP demands CBI probe into engineer's death in Himachal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh is calling for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of Vimal Negi, a chief engineer at Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). BJP MLA Randhir Sharma has requested a response from the government on this matter after a memorandum was submitted to the governor on Friday. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi responded to the BJP's request. He noted that the issue could not be raised under point of order and accused the BJP of trying to mislead the public. He stated that the first information report (FIR) was filed based on the family's statements. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri assured that a fair investigation is underway. He emphasized that the government is concerned about the death of their officer. Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticized the government's handling of law and order in the state. On Saturday, Thakur and other BJP leaders visited Negi's grieving family. Thakur argued that a CBI probe would help clarify all uncertainties surrounding Negi's death.
