BJP demands immediate opening of Tirunelveli health center
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is calling for the urgent opening of an urban health center in Tirunelveli. The health center has been completed for three years but has not been inaugurated yet. S. Sivasubramanian, the BJP's west zone secretary, submitted a petition on Tuesday to the Mayor, G. Ramakrishnan. The health center is located in Malaiyaalamedu and is reported to be ready. However, the doors have not been fitted, allowing stray dogs and cattle to shelter there. Sivasubramanian emphasized the need to open the center quickly and ensure it has the necessary medical facilities. In addition to the health center issues, residents from KTC / SETC Employees' Colony also expressed concerns. They requested regular garbage collection and repairs for the roads damaged by underground drainage work. Local residents noted that the conditions have become unsafe due to the accumulated garbage and damaged roads. Roadside vendors near Tirunelveli Junction are asking the Corporation to allow them to continue their businesses. They claimed they have operated small shops for over 35 years without causing traffic issues. Their shops were removed during an eviction to clear drainage channels, leading to a loss of income. Another resident, K. Jayalakshmi, reported problems with sewage flowing into her field. She is unable to farm, despite having spent money on ploughing, due to the stagnant sewage. She requested that Corporation officials visit her property to address the problem. Several other petitions were submitted as well. A local councillor is seeking the installation of a shed and hand pump at a cremation ground. Residents from another area requested improved roads and drinking water facilities. They also asked for a drainage channel to handle rainwater.
