BJP leader Dilip Ghosh threatens women protesters in Bengal
A senior leader of the BJP, Dilip Ghosh, is facing backlash after a confrontation with women protesters in Kharagpur. A video of the incident has gone viral. During a road inauguration, Ghosh lost his temper and threatened one of the women, saying, "I will choke you." The confrontation began when local women questioned Ghosh’s absence during his tenure as an MP. They expressed their frustration with his lack of support and involvement in the community. Ghosh reacted aggressively, accusing the protesters of being supporters of the ruling Trinamool party. Tensions rose as Ghosh argued that he funded the road's construction. When the women continued to press him, he made derogatory comments, referring to them in an insulting manner. The police had to step in as the situation escalated, and Ghosh eventually left the scene surrounded by protesters. Ghosh later claimed the protest was organized by the Trinamool party and called the women "opportunists." He said the road cost Rs 2.6 lakh and would improve local living conditions. The incident has drawn significant criticism from local leaders, including Pradip Sarkar, a Trinamool councillor. He condemned Ghosh's behavior and called for an apology, noting that the language used was disrespectful. The controversy comes as the state assembly elections approach, giving the Trinamool party an opportunity to critique the BJP's image in Bengal.
