BJP MLA calls for fair delimitation process in Manipur
BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure a fair and transparent delimitation process in Manipur. He made this request in light of a recent Supreme Court directive to complete the delimitation process in several states, including Manipur, within the next three months. Singh, who is related to former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, stressed the need to address critical issues in Manipur before starting the delimitation. He highlighted the importance of completing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and reviewing the electoral rolls. These steps are necessary to protect the rights of the indigenous population and enhance the voter base in the state. Singh pointed out that there have been reports of anomalies in the voter list, which need to be corrected before delimitation begins. He also supported the Election Commission’s effort to link Voter IDs with Aadhaar. However, he emphasized the need to eliminate any fake Aadhaar cards first, as his state had uncovered 65,000 fraudulent ones. Additionally, Singh called for constitutional protection for the 40 Assembly constituencies in Manipur’s valley region. He believes this is essential to secure representation for the indigenous people and maintain the region's socio-cultural identity. In light of Manipur’s sensitive socio-political context, Singh urged the Delimitation Commission to prioritize these measures before proceeding with the delimitation. He believes that addressing these issues can reinforce public trust in the democratic process and help achieve lasting peace in the region.
