BJP women campaign for prohibition in Tamil Nadu
The women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested in Tamil Nadu by pasting portraits of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin in liquor shops on Wednesday. They called for a total ban on alcohol in the state and criticized an alleged ₹1,000 crore scam involving the state-run liquor distributor, Tasmac. The protest was led by Bhuvaneshwari, a former mayor in Tirunelveli. The BJP women pasted Mr. Stalin's portraits at a liquor shop in Meenakshipuram, near Tirunelveli Junction. They also handed out pamphlets highlighting the negative impacts of drinking and the alleged scam. Bhuvaneshwari accused the government of "looting money from the public" by selling liquor at high prices and engaging in illegal black market activities. She pointed out that despite many deaths from illicit alcohol in Kallakurichi and the suffering of many families, the ruling party continues to profit from liquor sales instead of enforcing the promised prohibition.
