Blackhawks suffer key injuries to three players
The Chicago Blackhawks have seen a recent surge in injuries after a period of good health this season. Colton Dach, a young forward, injured his left elbow on Thursday, and veterans Jason Dickinson and Alec Martinez also suffered injuries on Saturday. All three players missed the game on Sunday, where the Blackhawks defeated the Flyers 7-4. Interim coach Anders Sorensen said Dach is day-to-day, but details on Dickinson and Martinez's conditions are not yet available. Last season, the Blackhawks faced significant injury troubles, losing 362 man-games, the second-most in the NHL. However, this season, they have only accumulated 178 man-games lost, ranking 13th in the league. Most of those injuries have not involved skaters, as the loss of goalie Laurent Brossoit accounts for a large portion. Sunday's game also marked the Hawks' third sellout of the season, with a crowd of 20,125 at the United Center. The team has reduced its “Best Day Ever” theme games, which are typically popular with younger fans but not always appreciated by adults. Despite a trend of declining attendance as fans turn to basketball and baseball, this game was a success in ticket sales. Meanwhile, former Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones is struggling with the Florida Panthers. In his first nine games with the team, the Panthers have been outscored heavily in his ice time. He has three points so far, including his first goal for the Panthers. With Aaron Ekblad suspended, Jones has moved up the lineup but has not found good chemistry with teammates. The Bruins have also made changes this season, trading key players like Brad Marchand and having to deal with injuries, including one affecting Charlie McAvoy. Currently, three former Blackhawks defensemen make up half of the Bruins' defensive lineup, which may present challenges as they work with a less experienced group. The Blackhawks are set to face the Bruins on April 10.
