Blind woman's life savings stolen by daughter
Frances Connolly, a 95-year-old blind woman with dementia, lost over £100,000 from her savings in just three months. Her daughter Sheila set up a new account and quickly withdrew the funds after Frances signed a document granting her access. Family members reported the theft to Merseyside Police, but the investigation ended after Frances passed away in October 2024. The Financial Ombudsman Service found Halifax bank acted appropriately, as Frances had permitted Sheila to manage her account. Frances's daughter, Pat, expressed frustration over the bank allowing her mother to sign documents despite her vulnerabilities. The family discovered additional withdrawals from Frances's husband's account, totaling nearly £200,000, leaving them without answers about the missing funds.
