Bloc Québécois proposes law to buy Canadian goods
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet is urging the Canadian federal government to create a law that promotes buying Canadian-made products. He wants this law to reflect the U.S. Buy American Act and similar protectionist laws. Blanchet spoke to reporters today in front of the American Consulate in Quebec City. He emphasized the need for Canada to strengthen its economy, especially given U.S. tariffs. His proposal aims to ensure that federal contracts include a certain percentage of Canadian and Quebec goods and services. The Bloc leader also criticized tax reduction promises made by the Liberal and Conservative parties. He called their plans “impossible” and asked them how they would fund these tax cuts. The Conservatives have suggested cutting income taxes by 2.25 percentage points, while the Liberals proposed a one-point reduction for the lowest tax bracket. The Bloc Québécois aims to influence the upcoming federal election on April 28, hoping to hold some power in a potential minority government.
