Blood drive honoring Gail Middleton scheduled for Saturday
A blood drive will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at SIUH Community Park in Staten Island. The event is organized by the Staten Island FerryHawks in partnership with the New York Blood Center. It honors Gail Middleton, a beloved local artist who passed away in 2024. The blood drive runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It comes at a crucial time as New York City faces a severe shortage of blood donations. Gail Middleton was known for her deep love for Staten Island and her dedication to the environment. She spent mornings cleaning Fort Wadsworth Beach and documenting its beauty for her art. Middleton was recognized for her efforts and was named NY1’s “New Yorker of the Week” in April 2024. This blood drive aims to continue her legacy and raise awareness about the importance of donating blood. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. Each donor will receive a pair of FerryHawks tickets as a thank you. This small gesture aims to acknowledge the big impact that blood donations can have. For more information about the event, registration details are available online.
