Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started a cleanliness drive to improve traffic flow on the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Eastern Express Highway (EEH). This initiative began on March 17 and will continue until March 22. The goal is to clear debris, abandoned vehicles, and other obstacles from these busy roads. The campaign runs nightly from 10 PM to 6 AM. It began at Sion on the EEH and Bandra on the WEH. On the first day, workers cleaned 16.3 kilometers of roads. They collected 25 tons of road debris, 4 tons of garbage, and 5.5 tons of other waste. The BMC used 16 mechanical cleaning machines, including sweepers and pressure-washing tools, for this task. The effort includes cleaning and painting road signs, improving bus stop seating, and dealing with public restrooms. The campaign also focuses on removing unauthorized signs and hoardings. Deputy Commissioner Kiran Dighavkar outlined the upcoming cleaning schedules. On March 18, areas from Ghatkopar to Vikhroli and from Andheri to Kandivali will be addressed. Other specific routes will be targeted over the following days, ensuring a thorough clean-up across the city's key roads.
