BMC plans to relocate Dadar Kabutarkhana in Mumbai
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is considering moving the Dadar Kabutarkhana due to health complaints from local residents. Many people in the area have raised concerns about the dangers of pigeon droppings and feathers. This situation has been a long-standing issue for the community. Residents have reported health problems, such as asthma and skin conditions, linked to the presence of pigeons. Priyanka Borkar, a local resident, noted that children and elderly people are particularly affected. The pigeons not only gather at the kabutarkhana but also spread to nearby homes, forcing residents to install nets and grills to keep them out. Concerns also extend to food safety. A resident expressed worries about food contamination in nearby shops and stalls due to bacteria from pigeon droppings. The BMC's G-North ward office is planning a meeting with stakeholders to discuss potential solutions and locations for the kabutarkhana's relocation. Suggestions include moving it closer to Kirti College or Worli, but officials will first hear from the community. However, some residents and officials, like Sandeep Doshi from the Dadar Kabutarkhana trust, argue that the kabutarkhana is part of the area's identity and should not be moved. They claim they maintain cleanliness and manage feeding to minimize issues. The BMC is weighing the needs of the community against the kabutarkhana's historical significance as it seeks a resolution.
