Bohol candidates commit to fair May 2025 elections
Candidates in Bohol province have committed to ensuring fair elections in May 2025. This was announced during a peace covenant signing held at the Saulog Gymnasium in Tagbilaran City on March 25. Among the attendees were reelectionist Mayor Jane Yap and her opponent, Councilor Atoy Torralba. They were joined by other candidates and important officials from various government agencies, including the Commission on Elections and the Department of the Interior and Local Government. The presence of candidates like Hardy Leopando, who is running for governor, and reelectionist Greg Jala for board member, underscores the importance of this event. Lt. Col. Norman Nuez from the Bohol Police emphasized that the signing means all parties agree to uphold peace and order during the election process. The covenant also includes a promise to follow election laws, prevent violence, and maintain respectful communication among candidates. The Bohol Police assured citizens of their commitment to a safe and honest election process, aligning with the mandate of the Philippine National Police to protect democracy. Bohol has a voting population of over a million.
