Bomb cyclone brings heavy rain and power outages to Northern California
A bomb cyclone and atmospheric river are bringing heavy rain to Northern California. Satellite images show the storm, which is the first major weather event of the 2024-2025 water year, approaching the coast. The storm is large, with winds exceeding 40 knots and swells over 20 feet off Northern California. While it intensified far offshore, it is still expected to deliver significant rainfall, with some areas forecasted to receive over six inches. Currently, about 38,000 Californians are without power due to the storm. Flood risks are increasing in the Pacific Northwest as heavy rain is anticipated in the coming days.
