Bong Joon Ho exhibit opens at Academy Museum March 23
Bong Joon Ho, the renowned Korean director, is being celebrated in a new exhibit at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibit, titled "Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho," opens on March 23 and will run until June 10, 2027. It is the first of its kind dedicated entirely to Bong's film career. The exhibit includes over 100 original items from Bong. Notable pieces are the suseok rock from his Oscar-winning film "Parasite" and the original slate from his earlier movie "The Host." There are also comic books and storyboards that showcase his artistic journey, starting from his time as a student. Exhibition curator Michelle Puetz expressed excitement about how Bong's style has evolved. The exhibit will feature screenings of some of his most famous films, including "Okja," "Parasite," and "Snowpiercer." Bong and actor Steven Yeun will participate in a discussion during the screening of "Okja" on March 23. Among the highlights of the exhibit are the recreated family portrait from "Parasite," as well as props and costumes from "Snowpiercer." The exhibit also emphasizes Bong's attention to detail in storyboarding, with sketches from "Mother" and "Memories of Murder" on display. Bong's love for comic books began early in his life and influenced his film work. At Yonsei University, he formed a film club that screened classic movies and allowed him to develop his unique visual style. Additionally, the exhibit celebrates Bong's cinematic influences, showcasing posters of films that have inspired his career.
