Boston launches initiative to reduce energy costs
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced a new initiative called the Boston Energy Saver. She revealed this plan during her State of the City address on Wednesday. The goal of the program is to reduce energy costs for residents. Wu aims to install at least 5,000 heat pumps and weatherize 10,000 buildings in the next two years. This initiative comes as utility bills have been rising sharply across Massachusetts this year. Oliver Sellers-Garcia, the Boston Environment Commissioner, explained that the program will provide various incentives. These include federal, state, and utility incentives. The plan will help residents customize solutions for their homes. The program also aims to address concerns about the Mass Save program, which has faced criticism for long wait times. Boston's Energy Saver program is set to launch later this year.
