Boulder Valley School District cancels classes Thursday
Boulder Valley School District has canceled classes on Thursday due to staff shortages. Over 600 staff members are expected to be absent as they join the No More Education Cuts statewide Day of Action. The protest is in response to proposed cuts of nearly $150 million to education funding. The Colorado Education Association claims these cuts will further underfund schools, which are already lacking $4,000 to $4,500 per student annually. Governor Jared Polis' change to student enrollment counting will lead to a loss of almost $5 million for the district. BVSD officials state that these cuts will reduce resources, programming options, and may lead to layoffs.
