Boxing Federation of India's elections paused over court orders
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has postponed its elections, which were set for March 28, due to legal issues. Returning Officer RK Gauba announced this decision after receiving conflicting court orders. The BFI's current president, Ajay Singh, is seeking urgent help from the courts to resolve these issues. The elections were paused after some member state associations took their complaints to court. The Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Courts issued orders that could disrupt the election process. In a statement, Singh indicated that the federation would await further guidance from higher courts before proceeding. Gauba, a former judge, confirmed that the election process would remain on hold until the BFI updates him on any actions taken concerning the court's rulings. Two days prior, the Delhi High Court had halted a directive from Singh that limited who could represent Delhi in the elections. Additionally, the Himachal Pradesh High Court ruled that former sports minister Anurag Thakur could run for the presidency, reversing his disqualification. The Maharashtra boxing association also has filed a legal challenge, seeking to stop the elections in Bombay.
