Boy dies in U.P. after rejecting anti-rabies treatment
An 11-year-old boy in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, has died from suspected rabies after being bitten by a stray dog. The boy, named Yash Babu, was bitten on February 4 while playing outside his home. Instead of getting medical help, his family chose to rely on traditional healing methods. On March 20, Yash started to show severe symptoms, such as aggression and fear of water. His family took him to a local health centre, and he was later sent to Hallet Hospital in Kanpur for further treatment. Unfortunately, he passed away on Friday evening. After the boy's death, health officials provided anti-rabies vaccine doses to his family and people close to them as a precaution. Dr. Manoj Kumar, a deputy chief medical officer, explained that rabies can be fatal once symptoms develop but can be prevented with timely vaccination. He emphasized that the boy did not receive the necessary post-exposure treatment, leading to this tragic outcome.
