Brazil arrests military officers and ex-cop in alleged plot to overthrow Lula government
Brazilian authorities arrested four military officers and a former police official on Tuesday for an alleged plot to overthrow President Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva. The suspects reportedly aimed to kill Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The investigation revealed that the conspirators included special forces-trained military personnel and a retired police official. They intended to disrupt the inauguration of Lula's government and undermine Brazil's democracy and judiciary. Earlier this year, two military leaders under former President Jair Bolsonaro indicated that Bolsonaro had a plan to retain power if he lost the election. President Lula was informed of the arrests while attending the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
