Brazil arrests soldiers in alleged plot to assassinate President Lula
Brazilian police have arrested five individuals, including four soldiers and one police officer, for allegedly plotting to assassinate President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in December 2022. This is the first reported attempt to kill Lula before his inauguration. The suspects were part of a criminal organization that planned to poison Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin. Investigations revealed that the group had military training and discussed executing a member of the Supreme Court as well. The arrests occurred during a security operation for the G20 leaders' meeting in Rio de Janeiro. The plot, named "green and yellow dagger," referenced the colors of the Brazilian flag and involved detailed planning to carry out the assassination.
