Brazilian police arrest five in alleged plot to assassinate president-elect Lula
Brazilian police arrested five individuals on Tuesday linked to an alleged plot to assassinate president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and vice-president Geraldo Alckmin before they took office. This marks the first mention of a murder plot in the ongoing investigation. The suspects, primarily military personnel with Special Forces training, were part of a plan called "Green and Yellow Dagger," aimed at executing the attack on December 15, 2022. Police also issued search warrants and imposed travel restrictions on the suspects. The investigation, which is expected to conclude this month, suggests that the group had significant military expertise to coordinate their actions. They also intended to establish a crisis management office and target a Supreme Court justice if successful.
