Brenda Blethyn, 78, was hospitalized while filming the final episodes of "Vera" after experiencing Bell's Palsy, which caused facial weakness. She was unaware of the issue until her makeup artist noticed something was wrong. After receiving treatment, Blethyn returned to the set. She has previously discussed the challenges of long filming schedules and her decision to retire from the role of DCI Vera Stanhope.
