Brennan Othmann seeks to improve despite scoring struggles
Brennan Othmann is a rookie with the New York Rangers. He is still looking for his first point after playing 14 games. He is used to scoring, so this is on his mind. His teammates even joke with him, saying “It’s a good night for your first” before games. Othmann recently took a break from the lineup and served as a healthy scratch against the Flames. At 22 years old, he is trying to stay positive. He said he holds himself to a high standard and feels disappointed for not producing much. However, he believes it's more important to gain the trust of his coaches and stay in the lineup. He wants to focus on playing better rather than stressing about scoring. Othmann thinks he needs to have the puck more and be more confident with it. He is aware that he makes good plays when he has control. Last season, Othmann played a few games but struggled with injuries this year. He made his debut against the Islanders after sitting out for a long time. He has mostly played on the fourth line, averaging around 9 minutes of ice time per game. Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has recognized Othmann's potential but wants him to continue improving both offensively and defensively. Othmann’s next opportunity to prove himself may come soon, and he feels he is adjusting well from his time in the AHL. Despite the struggles, he remains optimistic about his game and aims to keep improving.
