Brent Bryant appointed assistant city manager of Oklahoma City
Brent Bryant, a long-time employee of Oklahoma City, has been promoted to assistant city manager. This position is the second highest within the city government. Previously, he served as the city’s chief financial officer and has been with the city for over 33 years. Bryant expressed his gratitude for the appointment and recognized the responsibility that comes with it. He aims to provide excellent service and continue the city’s positive momentum. His career began in 1991 as an internal auditor, and he has held various roles including contract coordinator and economic development program manager. City Manager Craig Freeman praised Bryant for his leadership in significant financial programs. Under Bryant’s management, the city handled 16 of its 21 Tax Increment Financing Districts and developed a $2 billion budget. He also managed substantial bond and trust debt for the city. Reflecting on his experience, Bryant noted that Oklahoma City has made significant progress over the past 30 years. He acknowledged a current economic slowdown but emphasized that the city has a strong financial position with a Triple A bond rating. This financial stability allows for investments in infrastructure, such as streets and parks. Looking to the future, Bryant envisions Oklahoma City growing wisely over the next decade. He mentioned plans for a new basketball arena and continued investment through a general obligation bond program. Bryant will continue as the chief financial officer while overseeing five departments: Finance, Public Works, Utilities, MAPS, and the Office of Equity. He replaces Laura Johnson, who retired after 45 years of service. Bryant lives in Oklahoma City with his wife and has two adult children.
