Brent Burns supports Jr. Sharks youth hockey program
Brent Burns, a defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes, shared how he endorsed the Jr. Sharks youth hockey program to Dr. Rick Celebrini. This recommendation occurred nearly seven years ago when Burns' son, Jagger, participated in the program. Burns believed the Jr. Sharks offered a strong challenge for young players. Celebrini was considering a move from Vancouver to the Bay Area for a job with the Golden State Warriors. He wanted to ensure that the Jr. Sharks program would suit his sons, Aiden and Macklin. Macklin, showing exceptional talent, needed a program that would push his development. Burns recalled that he had good experiences with the Jr. Sharks and felt confident in its quality. His endorsement helped the Celebrinis decide to relocate, as they had also looked into a position with the San Antonio Spurs, where youth hockey options were limited. Macklin Celebrini excelled in his time with the Jr. Sharks, scoring 101 points, including 54 goals, in a single season. Currently, he plays for the San Jose Sharks, where he is the leading scorer with 50 points. He is also a top candidate for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL's best rookie. Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour praised Macklin Celebrini, noting his potential to change the game's outcome. Celebrini's impressive performance caught attention, as he continues to make a strong impact on the ice. Other top rookie candidates include Lane Hutson from the Montreal Canadiens, Dustin Wolf from the Calgary Flames, and Matvei Michkov from the Philadelphia Flyers. The Calder Trophy is voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
