Brexit negatively affected UK exports and economy
Former Brexit negotiator Lord David Frost faced criticism during a discussion on Politics Live. Liberal Democrat MP Munira Wilson challenged Frost about the economic effects of Brexit on the UK. The country is struggling financially, prompting the government to consider spending cuts in an upcoming Spring statement. Frost attempted to blame the poor economy on Labour leader Keir Starmer. However, BBC presenter Jo Coburn suggested that the issues may stem from Brexit. Wilson argued that Brexit has introduced excessive regulations that harm the economy. Frost responded by saying that not all regulations are negative and that the government has increased bureaucracy. He also criticized Labour's proposed employment law, claiming it would add significant costs for employers. Wilson countered Frost's arguments, emphasizing the detrimental impact of Brexit. She pointed out that UK exports to the EU have dropped by £27 billion. Additionally, many British goods no longer reach European markets. Wilson urged the government to negotiate a better deal with the EU. She believes this could reduce red tape and boost the economy, ultimately benefiting public services.
