Brian Ibe pleads not guilty to murder in Newbridge
A 24-year-old man, Brian Ibe, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Peter Kennedy, a 65-year-old man. The murder happened in Newbridge between April 28 and May 12, 2020. Ibe is currently without a permanent address and previously lived in Moore Park, Newbridge. During a court appearance, Ibe claimed he was not guilty by reason of insanity. He also made the same plea for an assault charge against Garda Brendan O'Donnell, which occurred around the same time in 2020. The case will involve expert testimony from various psychiatrists and psychologists. Prosecution witnesses include Dr. Mary Davoren and Dr. Kevin Lambe. The defense will present experts like Dr. Conor O’Neill and Dr. Stephen Monks, among others. Judge Melanie Greally informed the jury that many Garda witnesses from different areas will also testify. The trial is set to start tomorrow at 11:30 AM and is expected to last about two weeks, with a chance of extending.
