Broadband prices rising in UK from April 2025
Many customers of Sky, Virgin Media, and EE will face price increases starting in April. These increases are linked to inflation rates, which change every year, and many companies will adjust their prices for existing customers as a result. New rules from Ofcom will prevent providers from linking price increases directly to inflation in new contracts. Instead, they will set a fixed annual increase. This change took effect after 2025. Customers should check if they are affected based on when they signed their contracts. If you signed up recently, you might have a fixed increase stated in your contract. Some providers, like Hyperoptic, do not increase prices for existing customers, making them a good option if you want to avoid hikes. For those not under contract, switching providers can help avoid these price hikes. Hyperoptic, for instance, offers packages starting at £28 a month, plus three months free, but it may not be available everywhere. Utility Warehouse is also an option that offers broadband with potential discounts on energy prices if you bundle services. For customers of Virgin Media and Sky, keep in mind that Virgin Media raises prices by £3.50 each year. Sky, however, plans to increase prices by 6.2 percent in April 2025. While Sky insists they follow the rules, they do still raise prices based on inflation. Their packages start at £27 a month, while Virgin Media starts at £23.99 a month.
