Broadway man indicted for child sex offenses

A Broadway man, Jorge Arevalo-Martinez, has been indicted on charges of indecent liberties and statutory sex offenses involving a child. He is 45 years old and was arrested on February 4. Arevalo-Martinez was initially held without bond, but his bond was later set at $500,000. District Court Judge Joy A. Jones ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim. His attorney, Norman "Chas" Post III, asked for a lower bond of $5,000 on February 21, but this request was denied. As of March 20, Arevalo-Martinez remains in Harnett County Jail. The alleged offenses took place between January 25, 2019, and August 31, 2020, when the alleged victim was eight years old. The victim is now 14. A probable cause hearing that was scheduled for March 25 had to be postponed because the prosecuting attorney was on medical leave. Arevalo-Martinez is set to have a disposition hearing on April 21 in Harnett County Superior Court.
