Broncos hire Jeff Schmedding as inside linebackers coach
The Denver Broncos have hired Jeff Schmedding as their new inside linebackers coach. This move comes as the team works to stabilize its coaching staff after a period of significant changes. Schmedding previously served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Washington State for two seasons. However, he was let go in December after the team's defense struggled during the 2024-25 season. Despite this, Schmedding has extensive experience, having worked at several collegiate programs. Before his time at Washington State, Schmedding was the defensive coordinator at Auburn, and he also coached at Boise State. This new role marks his first position in the NFL. The Broncos are continuing to bring in talent from college coaching ranks. Earlier this month, they hired Brian Niedermeyer, a former coach at Tennessee, for a role in defensive quality control. Schmedding replaces Greg Manusky, who was dismissed in January, adding further stability to the linebacker coaching position.
