Broncos sign safety Talanoa Hufanga for three years
The Denver Broncos have made a significant addition to their roster by signing safety Talanoa Hufanga. Here are five key points about him. Hufanga had an impressive breakout year in 2022 as one of the NFL’s top defensive players. He was named a first-team All-Pro after making 97 tackles, four interceptions, and two sacks among other accomplishments. He played college football at Southern Cal and was recognized as a consensus All-American. Despite his talent, Hufanga has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. He played only 17 games over the last two years. In 2023, he tore his ACL, and in 2024, he missed ten games due to wrist and knee issues. The Broncos are hopeful he can recover and return to his 2022 form. They signed him to a three-year contract worth up to $45 million, which includes $20 million guaranteed. Hufanga also gets to reunite with his former teammate Dre Greenlaw, who has joined the Broncos as well. They played together on a strong San Francisco 49ers defense that reached three NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. He comes from a football family. His older brother T.J. played linebacker at Oregon State, and his cousins Tuli and Marlon Tuipulotu also played in the NFL. Tuli was drafted by the Chargers, while Marlon was recently signed by the Chiefs. Lastly, Hufanga recently received his new Broncos jersey, number 9. He shared that this number is meaningful to him because it has been his favorite, though he had never worn it before at the collegiate level. He recalled that his father had insisted he keep the number 15 while at USC, but now he has the chance to wear 9 with Denver.
