A school bus in the Bronx was hit by gunfire while carrying young students on Friday afternoon. The bus was transporting eight special-needs children aged 5 to 9 when at least two shots struck the vehicle. The incident took place around 2:20 p.m. near East 165th Street and Trinity Avenue in the Forest Houses neighborhood. One bullet broke a window, and others hit the side of the bus. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police believe one or more shooters fired at least six bullets in the area. They think the bus may not have been the target, as four teenagers were seen running from the scene. Investigators are looking into possible connections to gang activity. A bus monitor described the scene, saying there seemed to be a conflict between two groups. She helped protect the children by pushing them to the floor while covering them with her body. A coworker of the bus driver said the driver continued to drive until they were away from danger. As of Friday night, no arrests had been made related to the shooting.
