The Broomfield Bird Club has selected a student to receive a scholarship for a birding camp this summer. Maylin Hewing will attend the week-long Birding Adventure Camp hosted by the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. Hewing, who is 13 years old, is the recipient of the Walter “Ski” Szymanski Scholarship for Young Birders. The camp is located near Barr Lake State Park in Brighton. "I’m so thrilled and grateful," Hewing said in a news release. She expressed her excitement to learn more about birds and see various species during the camp. The scholarship is awarded annually in memory of Walter “Ski” Szymanski. He was a skilled birder, photographer, and a founding member of the Broomfield Bird Club.
