Brothers and roommate of murderer ordered deported
A U.S. judge has ordered the deportation of Diego Ibarra, the brother of a man convicted of murdering a nursing student. Laken Riley was killed on February 22, 2024, while jogging at the University of Georgia. Diego Ibarra was sentenced to four years in federal prison for possessing a fake green card during the investigation of the murder. Diego Ibarra, 29, pleaded guilty to multiple charges of using fraudulent documents. He was already in custody after his illegal presence in the U.S. was discovered by police. His brother, Jose Ibarra, was the murderer, and is serving a life sentence for the crime. The judge also ordered another brother, Argenis Ibarra, and their roommate, Rosbeli Flores-Bello, to be placed in custody with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Both admitted to having fake green cards and pleaded guilty in December 2024. They will face deportation immediately. Diego Ibarra's background shows a long history of illegal border crossings. He had been deported once and attempted to enter the U.S. again multiple times. While he was in custody for the fake documents, he caused property damage in jail and was found with makeshift weapons. Despite their illegal immigration status, Diego, Argenis, and Flores-Bello lived together in Georgia before the murder took place. Investigators found links between Diego Ibarra and a Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua.
