Brothers charged in U.S. for cartel-related crimes
Brothers Miguel and Omar Trevino Morales, known as "Z-40" and "Z-42," were charged in the U.S. with drug trafficking, firearm possession, and money laundering. They led the Zetas cartel until its decline and were recently expelled from Mexico. The U.S. Department of Justice claims they are responsible for multiple murders and other violent crimes. Both brothers pleaded not guilty and could face the death penalty if convicted. The Zetas cartel, known for its brutality, was rebranded as Cartel del Noreste while the brothers were imprisoned. The U.S. has designated this group as a foreign terrorist organization.
