Brothers in Mumbai accused of ₹1.56 crore diamond fraud
The Bandra Kurla Complex police in Mumbai are searching for two brothers, Chirag and Yogesh Viradia, accused of stealing diamonds worth ₹1.56 crore from local merchants. The police have filed a report against them under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complaint was made by Pritesh Shah, who runs a diamond business. He met Chirag on February 17 when introduced by brokers Dinesh Sawani and Amit Deora. Chirag claimed to own a company and obtained 294.22 carats of diamonds valued at ₹87.15 lakh on credit, promising to pay back within four days. When Shah followed up for payment, Chirag said he had sent the diamonds to his brother in Hong Kong and promised payment soon. However, after several days without payment or communication, Shah discovered that Chirag had also taken another batch of diamonds worth ₹69.66 lakh from a different merchant on February 19. As the investigation continues, police are looking into whether the Viradia brothers have committed similar frauds in the past. The search for them is ongoing.
