Brush fire in southern Miami-Dade County is contained
A large brush fire in southern Miami-Dade County has been contained after burning over 26,000 acres. Fire-Rescue officials confirmed on Sunday that the fire is now under control. The fire caused closures on U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road, which are the main routes to the Florida Keys. Smoke from the fire made driving hazardous in the area. While the fire is contained, officials advised drivers to be cautious due to lingering hot spots that could produce smoke. Teams from Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue and the Florida Forest Service worked for days to manage the blaze. By Sunday afternoon, most firefighters had returned to their regular duties, but some remained to assist with spot fires. The Forest Service will continue to monitor the situation from the air and conduct water drops as needed. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised the first responders for their efforts in controlling the fire and protecting the community.
