BSNL, a state-owned telecom company in India, is launching a project called BharatNet to improve internet connectivity in rural areas. The initiative plans to install over 100,000 4G mobile towers and will be completed within the first half of the financial year. Currently, BSNL provides service in over 75,000 locations across the country. Polycab, a firm known for its electrical wires and cables, has been awarded a contract worth ₹3,000 crore for the BharatNet project in Bihar. They will design, build, install, maintain, and upgrade the middle-mile network for the next ten years. The project aims to connect all village councils with broadband, enhancing services such as e-governance, e-education, and e-health. So far, BharatNet has positively affected more than 200,000 village councils in India. The government hopes this project will transform rural infrastructure and help bridge the gap between urban and rural services. Other companies, such as HFCL, have also contributed to the BharatNet project.
