Buccaneers host event to empower women in football

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers held their first-ever “She is Football Weekend” at Raymond James Stadium in early March. Over 800 women attended the two-day event aimed at promoting opportunities for women in the NFL. Attendees heard from Buccaneers co-owner Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, NFL executive Dasha Smith, and other female leaders. The event included a summit with small group discussions, a live podcast recording, and an interview with All-Pro tackle Tristan Wirfs. The Buccaneers hope to empower women and girls through sports. The Glazer family has a goal to develop 50,000 female leaders each year through programs like this one. They believe that playing sports is a strong indicator of future leadership. They have previously hosted events to support women in sports and aim to continue this commitment. One highlight of the weekend was a 5K event that drew more than 3,000 participants. The team also featured women-owned businesses and offered tours of the sports complex to educate young girls about various careers in sports. In 2017, the NFL established its Women’s Forum, which has since created over 250 opportunities for women in football. Last season, the league also saw a record number of female coaches. Smith noted that events like this help uplift local communities and support the growth of football. The Buccaneers already announced plans for the next “She is Football Weekend” on March 6-7, 2026. The event attracted attention from women across the country, making it a successful gathering for networking and career inspiration in sports.
