BuCor requests human rights probe into Bilibid prison stabbing incident

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has asked the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to investigate a stabbing incident at the New Bilibid Prison on January 2. This request was made on January 4 by BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. The stabbing resulted in the death of inmate Ricardo Peralta, while two others were injured. BuCor has also requested investigations from the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police. In response to the incident, four prison staff members have been suspended. BuCor has directed the Acting NBP Superintendent to provide a detailed report and cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
