Buehler out Sunday with stomach bug, expected Monday
Walker Buehler did not pitch for the Boston Red Sox on Sunday as expected. He is recovering from a stomach bug that has affected several players this spring. Manager Alex Cora explained that Buehler's final spring start was postponed, but he is still set to make his season debut on Saturday against the Texas Rangers. Buehler is scheduled to throw six innings on a back field at Fenway South on Monday. Cora hopes he will feel better by then and stated, “Stay away from this and stay away from the clubhouse.” In other Red Sox news, right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello is on track to debut around April 11 after dealing with shoulder soreness. He pitched 1 2/3 innings in a minor league game on Saturday and will continue to build up in upcoming games. Lucas Giolito, also recovering from an injury, had a strong performance in a two-inning minor league game, allowing only one hit. Outfielder Wilyer Abreu and utility player Romy Gonzalez are both expected to be ready for Opening Day. Abreu has been performing well in practice, while Gonzalez will play in minor league games to demonstrate his health. The team will take a small group of players to Monterrey, Mexico, for a two-game exhibition series. Some key players, including Rafael Devers and Trevor Story, will remain in Fort Myers. Richard Fitts will start the first game on Monday, with Shane Drohan pitching on Tuesday.
