Bulls Bay Nature Fest returns May 17 in Awendaw
The Bulls Bay Nature & Heritage Festival will take place on May 17 at the Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center in Awendaw. This popular outdoor celebration will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers educational and recreational activities for everyone. Visitors can enjoy 30 free activities, which include beehive demonstrations, bird banding, family fishing, and butterfly tutorials. There will also be opportunities to watch wildlife and learn about native plants during guided walks and trails. Andrea Frazier, a volunteer and registered nurse, highlighted the addition of two new red wolves at the US Fish & Wildlife Service. Attendees can also try archery and target shooting. The guest speaker this year, Bob Raynor, will discuss exploring the wilderness and connecting with nature. History buffs can visit Gullah Geechee shops and view basket-making demonstrations. An art contest will showcase mixed media from local students, with prizes for the best entries. Food trucks and live music will enhance the festive atmosphere. Frazier emphasized the festival's continued success since it began in 2013, calling it a "fabulous event" for the community.
