Bumrah returns to NCA for IPL fitness assessment

Jasprit Bumrah is back at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He is there to check his readiness for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This visit follows a previous one a week ago when he reported some pain while bowling. The staff at the NCA suggested exercises and asked him to return later. This time, there is more optimism about his recovery. If he feels good while bowling and does not have any discomfort, he might be cleared to play in the IPL. However, most expect that it will take at least another week before he can play, which means he will likely miss the first two matches for the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians' coach, Mahela Jayawardene, is hopeful about Bumrah's return. He mentioned that Bumrah is in good spirits and making progress, but it is still a day-to-day situation. Jayawardene acknowledged that missing Bumrah is a challenge, as he is one of the best bowlers globally. In a related note, Sanju Samson will return to the NCA next month for further evaluation. He has received partial clearance to bat but is not yet allowed to keep wickets after surgery on his finger. The Rajasthan Royals will use him only as an impact player for now and have appointed Riyan Parag as captain while Samson makes his recovery. After three games, they plan to reassess if he can resume his wicketkeeping duties.
