Burglar stole dates instead of cash in Hyderabad

A migrant worker named Mohammed Akram was arrested in Hyderabad after a failed burglary at the home of MP and BJP leader DK Aruna. The incident occurred in the early hours of March 16. Akram broke into the house but couldn't find any cash. Instead of valuables, he left with dates from the kitchen. Police reported that Akram targeted cash only and avoided gold or other valuables because it was hard to sell them. He admitted to spending money from his thefts on branded clothing and shoes. On the night of the burglary, he arrived in an auto rickshaw and left in the same vehicle. Akram moved to Hyderabad two weeks before the incident and worked as a tiles worker. He had scouted the area before choosing Aruna's residence without knowing it belonged to an MP. After the crime, police reviewed footage from over 300 CCTV cameras and tracked him down at his rented home. Authorities revealed that Akram has a history of theft. He has been involved in over 30 cases, with many registered in Delhi back in 2017. Items related to the burglary were seized, and he was placed in judicial custody. He had been released from Tihar jail in June 2024 following a previous conviction.
