Bus-sized asteroid to orbit Earth as mini moon starting Sunday

A bus-sized asteroid, named 2024 PT5, will temporarily orbit Earth starting Sunday. The asteroid, measuring 33 feet (10 meters), will be captured by Earth's gravity for about two months before departing on November 25. Discovered in August by astronomers in Spain, this mini moon is part of a group that may be more common than previously thought. The last known mini moon was detected in 2020. While it won't be visible to the naked eye, 2024 PT5 can be observed with large telescopes. It is unclear if it originated as an asteroid or a piece of the moon. It is expected to return in 2055.
