Businessman arrested for impersonating Supreme Court judge

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

A businessman from Kolkata named Pawan Pan was arrested for pretending to be a judge from the Supreme Court. He allegedly called a senior official at a nationalized mining company to try to get a work contract for himself. Pan spoke to the official on the phone and claimed to be the judge. He pressured the official to award a mining project in East Burdwan to him. The official found this suspicious and informed a senior IAS officer, who then reported it to the judge. Following the complaint, the police began an investigation. They arrested Pan on Sunday and charged him with impersonation, extortion, and fraud. He was taken to Bankshall Court, where he was ordered to remain in police custody until April 2. Authorities have revealed that Pan made several calls to manipulate officials by misusing the judge's name. They are now looking into whether he has committed similar frauds in the past.
