Buxar hosts Ustad Bismillah Khan Mahotsav today
Buxar is set to celebrate the birth anniversary of the famous shehnai musician, Ustad Bismillah Khan, today. The Ustad Bismillah Khan Mahotsav will take place at the Raj High School ground in Dumraon. The local district administration and the art and culture department of Bihar are organizing the event. On Thursday, Buxar ADM Kumari Anupam Singh visited Dumraon to review the preparations. Several artists are expected to showcase their talents through cultural programs and music performances featuring instruments like the santoor and shehnai. Participating artists include members of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Gharana, the Sufiyana Group Bhagalpur, and notable musicians such as santoor player Chandrashekhar Kumar and singers Shyama Shailja Jha and Rakesh Raju Sonu. Renowned folk singer Satyendra Sangeet will also join the celebrations. Murali Manohar Srivastava, a local author who has written a book on Bismillah Khan, emphasized Dumraon's rich artistic heritage. He has been invited to the Mahotsav and is working to establish a university in honor of the musician. Recently, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced plans to open a music college in Dumraon dedicated to Bismillah Khan. The legendary musician was born on March 21, 1916, in this town.
