BYD builds massive EV factory in Zhengzhou, China

Drone footage shows a massive electric vehicle factory being built by BYD in Zhengzhou, China. It spans 50 square miles, which is larger than many major US cities. The factory features roads, production buildings, and even recreational areas like a football field and tennis courts. The current construction includes five phases and is expanding rapidly. BYD, which already employs about 60,000 workers at this site, is planning to hire more than 200,000 additional employees in the next three months. Many workers live on-site, making the factory look like a small city. When completed, this facility will produce over one million cars each year, surpassing the production capacity of Tesla's Gigafactory in Nevada. The first vehicle from this factory was produced last April, priced over £17,600. BYD has seen strong sales growth, selling 4.25 million electric vehicles in 2024, and aims for 5.25 million in 2025. China's electric vehicle industry is growing rapidly, supported by strong governmental policies and demand for greener transportation. BYD, along with companies like NIO and XPeng, is leading this expansion, which is shifting the global automotive market.
